Adaptation Cost
Costs vary associated with adaptations or modifications to address the spectrum of obstacles the disabled Veterans face in their own homes.
Adapt A Vet utilizes a “non-antiseptic” universal design technique and personalized adaptation plans that provides the Veterans a level of independent living he or she may not normally enjoy.
Costs may be covered by, VA Grants, Corporate Sponsors, Community Partners, and Individual Donors.
Grant Information
- Special Housing Adaptation (SHA) $14,754
Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA)
- Service connected disability $6,800
- Non–Service $2,000
Grants are applied for via the VA Form 26-4555.
All Government grant requests for SAH and SHA must be submitted to the Department of Veterans Affairs Houston Regional office. All grants become and remain the full property of the Veteran. AAV utilizes ONLY the amount necessary to complete the adaptation. All financial amounts listed above are the maximum amounts offered, however, all cases are unique and subject to VA discrimination.
The HISA application must be obtained and submitted through the San Antonio Office VA Prosthetic Treatment Center @ 210-617-5300 HISA Coordinators.
PAY IT FORWARD
All Veterans who receive adaptations or services from Adapt A Vet are asked to give back to the community by:
- Volunteering at a local school
- Speaking publicly about the Adapt A Vet experience
- Spending some time with hospitalized Veterans
- Providing Adapt A Vet with a Testimonial
